Service Dogs
Welcome Home Iraq War Veterans
I am
proud to have German shepherds who have joined companionship
with Iraq War Veterans.
I am proud of the men and women who have served our country.
Psychiatric Service dogs: help with
Psychiatric disabilities such as post-traumatic stress disorder or
schizophrenia.
One in eight soldiers returning from Iraq or Afghanistan report systems
of
post-traumatic stress disorder.
Crowds remind them of chaos in Iraq. strong surges of panic and fear,
despair, guilt, sleepless nights and numb feelings towards love
ones.
The disorder also can cause hallucinations and hyper
vigilance.
Service dogs can chase the nightmares away!
They can sense impending manic episodes and panic attacks
even before the patient does.
The dogs tend to give the person a sense of
confidence, protection, companionship and something to focus on
besides their anxieties.
I was told by one veteran
"His dog will wake him up during a nightmare"
